Hello Chicago!

A little tired and need to be up and early tomorrow, so not too much depth tonight but I will leave a few words. Spent the quiet day with Jolie; I really enjoyed myself as little as we got to do. Granted, the three of us cozy covemates took the red eye to the windy city but waking up that early in the morning and seeing the city at dawn break was worth the measly four hours of sleep and weak itinerary.

Cuban food at Cafecito, Millenium Park, Lincoln Statue, the Bean, Chicago Cultural Center, Spanish Tapas, Artopolis, the Notebook & fruit tarts.

Like that last bit? Me too. I cried my eyes out again to the final minutes of the Notebook. Watching a chick flick over sweets is definitely a good ending to the first day of our Midwest adventure. It’s hard to believe that this dramatically different place is still part of the same nation. America really is ginormous and also great. I hate this country sometimes (especially when returning from trips abroad), but it always seems to pull me back into its arms with all its details and food. My goodness, the food. The tarts are delicious! So was the strawberry shortcake and dessert we shared tonight with Jolie’s family friends. Stella and Alex even ended up taking us through the city, pointing out all the major buildings and points to hit these next few days. Since I seem to be rewinding, I’m going to talk about the rest of day one backwards. It went by pretty quickly, with interesting hospital sketches at the letters exhibit and morbid curiosity at the Chicago Cultural Center. Before that was a stroll through Millennium Park and pictures with the CloudGate. Of course, that was only after a delicious lunch of Cuban pulled steak sandwich for me and grilled shrimp and heart of palm salad for Jo. Although I had planned for the two of us to explore the Shedd Aquarium after landing, we both fell asleep once we got to the hotel. Not to mention, the rail ride took a decent forty minutes. But the whole day we were in awe and in really good moods, so nothing could cripple our spirits.

I didn’t realize how long it has been since we have had a date together despite living in the same apartment. I think it has been too long since I have traveled with her and the last time was going to her hometown, which definitely doesn’t quite match a trip to Chicago. I have seriously been lacking in quality time with the bestie I have at school. Maybe I’m too caught up in this horoscope thing, but when we have dates I realize again and again how compatible we are. Cancer & Scorpio. I am dreading the ends to our days in cozy cove, but I’m confident we will have more C&J dates in our senior year regardless of where I live…With such a perfect beginning in the windy city, I have high expectations for the rest of the week.

And so we meet, Bean.
